Announcements

·         MISP meeting to finalize plans for the African-American Read-In on Feb. 10 from 7-8pm

·         Sherre will attend the ALA-Midwinter conference in Philadelphia (Jan.23-27)

 

Library internship

·         Starting Jan. 21 (Tuesday) Nancy Lovas will begin her library internship

·         Amanda will distribute an e-mail sign-up sheet for scheduling work hours (3-hr. blocks) between March 11 (Tuesday) – 17 (Thursday) for each department  

 

Sandbox classroom update

·         Proposal will be presented to the Provost and Dean’s Council for approval on Feb. 11 (Tuesday)

 

Digital humanities and social sciences colloquium    

·         “Torn to Bits? Technology Becomes the Humanities”

·         The first of 3 colloquiums will be held on Jan. 30 (Thursday) – Cyber Infrastructure in the Social Sciences Torn to Bits; the others will be held on March 11 (Tuesday) Practicing Digital Humanities and April 17 (Thursday) Digital Innovation and Traditional Practices

·         Library staff and student workers are encouraged to attend; library liaisons will also be invited to attend

 

Library organization next steps

·         The library will consist of 3 teams: user services, collection services and technology, systems, and discovery; the leaders of each team will also be part of the administrative support group

·         Team meeting schedules and leaders will need to be determined by each group

·         Job descriptions will need to be revised and submitted (future deadline to be determined)

·         Library candidate search committees – faculty members do not need to be selected; possible student and intern participation; library groups can also form a search committee. Search committees will draft job descriptions and vacancy notices, review applications, arrange interviews, check references, select candidate and make a recommendation to library director and the provost

·         Next staff meeting will be scheduled after spring break

·         Group meetings should meet at least every other week

·         Librarians group future meeting agenda item – promotion process
