Alexander S. Glover Jr.: Internationally Known Geologist

Alexander S. Glover Jr., is an internationally known geologist with 35 years of experience in industrial minerals. Throughout his career, Alex has specialized in developing resources of industrial minerals, including ingredients for producing a wide range of items used every day in the industrialized world – ingredients for automobile headlamp bulbs, solar panels, TV screens, computer chips, asphalt and concrete for super highways and building structures, structural and memorial marble, toothpaste and makeup products, carpet backing, dinnerware, dentures, pesticides, animal feed supplements, pharmaceuticals, and many more.

With a BS degree in Geology from the University of Georgia, Alex is the foremost authority on the Spruce Pine Mining District in North Carolina. The largest producing area in the world for feldspar, muscovite mica, and high purity quartz, this is the same area in which Gordon Bonnyman operated the Harris Mining Company.

Alex has served in management positions for The Georgia Marble Company, Vulcan Materials Company, and Zemex Industrial Minerals Corporation, and is currently Director of Mining and Mineral Resources for Active Minerals International. Among his many accomplishments are being an Honored Fellow of the Geological Society of America, past president of the Carolina Geological Society and the North Carolina Mining Association, and Special Registered Member of the Society of Mining Engineers with international licensing to perform mineral evaluation. He is the author of dozens of publications on industrial minerals; his latest publication appeared in Elements: An International Magazine of Mineralogy, Geochemistry, and Petrology in August 2012.

Alex works out of his office in Eatonton, Georgia and lives in Little Switzerland, North Carolina with his wife Debbie. They have 2 sons and 3 grandsons.
