These databases provide access to the widest range of articles from journals, magazines, and other resources.  Start here for most research projects. 

Music Research Resources 

Use these databases to help gather relevant information on musicians and the music industry. 

  • Oxford Music Online contains The Oxford Companion to Music, which offers more than 8,000 articles on composers, performers, conductors, instruments and notation, forms and genres, and individual works; and The Oxford Dictionary of Music, which supplements Grove's more-extensive articles with content geared toward undergraduates and general users. 
  • Arts & Humanities Database has peer-reviewed journals plus selected trade and consumer titles relevant to applied arts and cultural studies. 
  • Music Treasures Consortium
  • JSTOR is an archive of core scholarly books and journals, covering a wide variety of disciplines. (Note that journal issues from the most recent 3-5 years are usually NOT in JSTOR.)
