Notes and procedures

Background

Until 2018, eresource use data was managed manually. In fall 2018, at the recommendation of then Eresources Librarian Sarah Copeland, Memorial Library contracted with RedLink to use their Library Dashboard product. RedLink Library Dashboard was shut down in May 2020 and Memorial Library migrated use data management and all data from RedLink to Springshare LibInsight. Historical files are on the library's shared drive, in the Collection Services/Usage Reports folder.

LibInsight

LibInsight offers two datasets for eresource use data collection and analysis, depending on whether or not a resource supports Project COUNTER Release 5. The COUNTER 5 dataset harvests usage data via the Standardized Usage Statistics Harvesting Initiative (SUSHI) Protocol; manual entry of data is not accommodated. The COUNTER 4 dataset accommodates both manual entry and SUSHI harvesting.

Use Data for Individual Ebooks

In Project COUNTER, the Title Master Report provides use data for individual titles on a year-by-year basis. Some e-resources also have their own reporting systems that provide additional ways to look at usage data

  • EBSCO: Log in to EBSCOHost Collection Manager and select eBook Manager from the top menu. Search by title, keyword, subject heading, classification number, etc. to see use data about individual titles or groups of titles.
  • ProQuest: Log in to LibCentral. For one or two titles you can search the catalog for the book(s) in question, then click on the Activity Summary under Book Details. For more books or downloadable data, click on Reports in the top menu, then Usage Reports. Fill out the form.
  • JSTOR EBA: There's no easy way to see use for individual books over a span of time - you will have to run usage reports year by year. Log in to the admin platform and go to Books at JSTOR. Go to Create Reports and select EBA Usage. Complete the form.
  • Project MUSE EBA: Log in to the admin platform and go to My Library's Content, then Usage Statistics for EBA Books, then Access Your EBA Usage Report, and finally Berry College. The result will be a downloaded Excel file with worksheets for each year we have been active in the plan. You will need to add together use by title across the years.
