Download for Offline Reading & Added Functionality

You will need special software to download & read ebooks that use Digital Rights Management (DRM) software, such as EBSCOhost and ProQuest Ebook Central. The ebook systems will prompt you to add this software at the point of your first download, but it will be more convenient if you set up your device in advance.

  • For iOS and Android devices, all you need to download and read content is a reader app such as the free Bluefire Reader app.
  • For PCs, you must have Adobe Digital Editions (ADE).
  • To be able to switch between devices, you will need an Adobe ID.

What about Ereaders (Kindle, Nook)?

ProQuest Ebook Central

Only Kindle Fire is directly compatible with Adobe Digital Editions.

You can download ebooks that have print-to-PDF and chapter download capability on any device that supports .PDF file types – from Kindles and tablets to laptops and mobile devices. And you may transfer files between devices without support limitation.

For other ProQuest Central ebooks, you can first download to your computer, then transfer to your eReader:

  1. Follow the instructions above to download the book to your computer.
  2. Connect your eReader to your computer and open Adobe Digital Editions.
  3. Make sure you’re in the Library view. In the left pane, you should see your eReader listed under Devices. In the right pane, you’ll see your e-books. Drag the e-book from the right pane onto your device in the left pane. Note: Transferring an e-book to your eReader will authorize it with the same Adobe ID that your computer uses.
  4. Once the transfer is complete, you can disconnect your eReader and start reading.

EBSCOHost eBooks

eBook pages saved as a PDF can be transferred to, and read on eReader devices such as the Nook or Kindle. Consult your device's user manual for instructions on how to manually transfer files to the device.
