Open Access Publishing

Information and guidance about open access scholarly publishing for researchers in all disciplines.

Memorial Library has agreements for the following publishers or journals for APC waivers or discounts, but others may be available. Please contact me to discuss options.

American Association for the Advancement of Science

Memorial Library has a site license to the AAAS journal Science. As a result, AAAS discounts the article processing charge for Berry College authors who wish to publish in Science Advances, an APC-funded open access journal.

How can I apply this discount? The discount may be applied during the payment process, following acceptance of the article. Within the RightsLink payment system, click the blue “Apply Discounts” button at the bottom of the “Charges Estimate” screen to indicate eligibility for a discounted rate. In the Apply Discounts window, under the Affiliation discount section, search for and select Berry College. Once the institution is selected, the bold “Not applied” text will change to the appropriate amount of the discount, in USD.  Click the orange “Apply Discounts” button to confirm your selection.

What licenses are available? Creative Commons licenses CC BY or CC BY-NC; authors choosing a CC BY license will pay an added surcharge.

American Chemical Society Journals

Memorial Library subscribes to the Web Editions of All ACS Publications. Memorial Library is part of the GALILEO/ACS Read and Publish agreement. Berry College-affiliated corresponding authors may publish their articles as open access under a CC BY license at no cost to them or the college. ACS uses RightsLink for article publication management and deposits all open access articles to PubMed Central at issue. This agreement is fully compliant with Plan S, the open access initiative that requires that, from 2021, scientific publications that result from research funded by public grants must be published in compliant Open Access journals or platforms.

Cambridge University Press Journals

Memorial Library is part of the GALILEO/Cambridge University Press Transformative Agreement. Berry College-affiliated corresponding authors have unlimited open access publishing at no additional cost. This agreement is fully compliant with Plan S, the open access initiative that requires that, from 2021, scientific publications that result from research funded by public grants must be published in compliant Open Access journals or platforms.

**Please note that eligibility to publish under this agreement is based on the corresponding author’s institution, which is provided at manuscript submission, and is subject to the institution’s confirmation of eligibility.**

MDPI

While there is no set discount, MDPI makes it clear that corresponding authors should inquire about further discounts and waivers if grant funds are not available to cover the APCs. Contact me to discuss options.

PNAS

Memorial Library has a site license with PNAS. Berry College authors receive a discounted open access fee of $4,975 (compared to the $5,475 regular fee).

How can I apply this discount? The corresponding author should select the Open Access Option on the PNAS billing forms included with the author proofs, indicating the reduced APC due to a site license.

What licenses are available? Creative Commons license CC BY-NC-ND only.
