About Memorial Library

Reserving Memorial Library Facilities for Your Event

Berry College faculty, students and staff may reserve several areas within Memorial Library:

The Commons (Room 105, accommodates 18 at 6' spacing, 38 at 3' spacing)

The Commons is a multi-faceted, highly adaptable classroom space dedicated to experimenting with new technology that will foster instruction and enhanced student learning in a collaborative environment. The flexible layout encourages team-learning and small group/seminar-style discussions. The technology allows and encourages students to share ideas within a smaller group or to contribute work from multiple devices on a single central display for the whole class to see.

The Commons is available for reservation by faculty and staff on a first-come-first-served basis between 8am and 4pm, Monday through Friday. Between 4pm and 10pm, The Commons is reserved for Academic Success Center programming such as ASC Sessions and individual consultations, and is also available for open study. After 10pm, The Commons is not available for reservations. When not reserved, the space is open and available for free study to all members of the Berry community.

The Commons is unavailable for reservations during final exams.

Active Learning Classroom (Room 104, accommodates 25 at 6' spacing, 53 at 3' spacing)

Publicizing Your Event in Memorial Library

Any officially recognized Berry College group, or any group holding an event or activity on the Berry campus, may place one poster in Memorial Library without approval, on the bulletin boards & display wall near Java City.

Placement of all other publicity, including posters, fliers, banners, or other objects in or on Memorial Library must be approved in advance. Contact Memorial Library Director Sherre Harrington (706-236-2285 / sharrington@berry.edu).

Special Events

Other areas of Memorial Library are occasionally made available for special events organized by members of the Berry College community. Such use requires the approval of the Director. Memorial Library is not available for private functions such as weddings.

Use Outside of Library Operating Hours

In addition to any other approval required for the use of particular spaces, all use of Memorial Library outside the Library’s normal operating hours requires the approval of the Director.

The only approved public entrance to the building is the main Library Lawn entrance. All other entrances and exits are for staff and/or emergency use only, and may not be used to provide access to the building for events.

A Library staff member must be present at all times that the building is in use for an event. Event organizers may be required to reimburse the Library for the cost of staffing the building.
