African American Women Writers

Nikky Finney (1957- ), American poet, educator, photographer, and performance artist, is known for works that draw on a mixture of personal and national history, examining such issues as memory, family, ancestry, and identity. Much of Finney's work is rooted in place, and she is a founding member of the regional multiracial poetry group Affrilachian Poets. Among the many honours Finney has garnered for her work are a National Book Award for Poetry and the Benjamin Franklin Award for Poetry.
