Jewelle Gomez (1948- ), American novelist, essayist, playwright, and poet, is best known for her 1991 novel The Gilda Stories, a collection of interlinked stories about an American vampire who is Black and lesbian. The Gilda Stories, which was reissued by City Lights Books in 2016, was the first work of fiction to feature a vampire who is Black.
