Brian Bonnyman: Left Private Practice to Work in Community Medicine

Brian Bonnyman, a family physician in his hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee, is the youngest child of Isabel and Gordon Bonnyman, Sr. He worked in a suburban private practice for 15 years, and then left that practice to work in community medicine, now working mainly with uninsured patients, including homeless people and undocumented immigrants. He gets to use his basic Spanish with some patients. In a 2009 interview with the Princeton Alumni Weekly Brian said “There’s a lot of shouting about health-care reform. The patients that come see me aren’t shouting, but they are suffering. And I wish more people could hear them.”

Brian enjoys hiking and playing soccer.  He is married to Jean Webb Bonnyman, and has 2 beautiful teenage daughters, Claire and Helen. Jean is studying to become a lactation consultant, Claire will enter Rice University in fall 2013, and Helen is enjoying the newfound freedom of having a driver's license.
